why do police touch the back of the car before approaching the window?
I’ve been watching some speeding shows and I always see police touch the driver side rear window/bumper/lights before approaching the windows and its happened every time i’ve seen them do it now, why is this? luck? or is it something strategic? it’s puzzling me now!
Its normally the trunk or the hatch-back of the vehicle that the cop will touch. The reason for that is to ensure that its closed. You don’t want someone popping out of trunk or out the back of an SUV while you’re doing a car-stop.
A number of people here have said its to put finger prints on the vehilce. I’ll be honest I’ve never heard that before. It could be true, but I can think of a lot of simpler ways to “mark” a car should something go wrong during a car-stop. For example some cops will write down the make/model/plate of any vehilce they stop prior to exiting their own vehilce. This way if something goes wrong responding units have a description on the car.
